A stately rug with an imposing square-shaped central medallion laid within a red field contrasted against bright ivory corners and an indigo border. Closer examination reveals the intricacy of the medallion. It comprises an ivory and light blue "sunburst" at the center of a salmon-red eight-lobed medallion reminiscent of star Ushaks, and a grand deep blue outer medallion with sculpted sides that rise in steps towards turrets in the middle, a pattern that is echoed in the sides of the red field. Beautifully aged colors, including rare chestnut brown and olive green, gorgeous wool, and a wealth of foliate motifs complement the composition. (The pics were not taken in good light and do not show the colors well.)
